Time Trial League

Hey guys,

I was out cycling with some guys from the lunchtime legends group and got talking about the time trial league that they organise.

The calendar is done and details on pre-registration and the first night are on their website.

They have put me down as a contact for queens tri club. Peter/Michael/Thomas.. if any of you would rather be the contact point let me know :)

I'll be taking part in the races and I'm sure everybody could benefit from them. I was told that they start the week that the clocks go back.

Cheers,
Brian

Parkrun Weekly 5k

Hey guys,
I just found out about parkrun a few weeks back and maybe some people on here don't know about it either.. basically its a timed 5k run that runs every Saturday morning followed by coffee and cakes. It averages 70 runners per week of all levels. Best of all, everything is free! There are 2 locations in Belfast for this, one at the waterworks and one at victoria park. I've done a couple of runs with them and really enjoyed them. I'll be going again this Saturday to Victoria park if anyone wants to join. Register here if you're interested:

Catch me if you can Duathlon- Race Report

This race took place in sunny Dundalk to raise funds for Temple Street Childrens Hospital. The main attraction of the day was the Brownlee Brothers, the idea was that you would get a 3 minute head start on the brothers and see how long you could stay ahead of them over the 3.2km run, 17km bike and 3.2km run.

One for the boys

Galway IM 70.3 race report

If you can’t be bothered reading this whole thing then all you have to know is that I thought Galway 70.3 was brilliant.

Improve your running

Before you embark on a programme to improve your running, it is important to establish where you are now. A good indicator of this is to determine your current threshold pace. For example if your last 10k was run in 40.30 then your average mile pace was 6.30, this is your current threshold racing pace. If you were to increase your tempo to say 5.45 per mile during the race, you would be exceeding your threshold and quickly fall into oxygen debt. (most of us have experienced this feeling – commonly known as blowing up!)

My version of events at Lough Neagh Triathlon 2011

I couldn’t believe the day it turned out to be. Glorious hazy sunshine and a millpond Lough made the buzz around transition before the race one of the best experiences I have yet had in triathlon. This was my first race of the year, having forced myself to take it easy to prevent similar self induced injury as the previous year and to ensure I trained sensibly and within my capabilities. The week leading up to the race saw me having to leave my front bike wheel in for some emergency servicing.
